STYLE COMBOS FOR INTERIORS (PART 2)

COMBO 4

NAUTICAL + SCANDINAVIAN

Why is it a good choice?

While these two are different styles as such when used together blend almost perfectly giving a very uniform look to the interiors hence falls under the category of complementing styles. Very suitable for spaces where there is ample amount of sunlight especially coastal areas.

How to implement?

  • Light muted neutral colors with a dash of coastal blue should be your color palette. Prefer large windows.
  • Refined driftwood furniture as statement pieces.
  • Use a combination of lanterns, metal pendants and rope hangings for artificial lighting.
  • Hammocks and rugs made of cozy textile.
  • Light wood (beech, ash, pine) clean cut furniture with weathered look.
  • Simple accents derived from sailing paraphernalia, prefer more of metal accents.
  • Seascape wall art with metal frames for accents.
  • Simple striped patterns of neutral colors for fabrics.
  • Clean cut shiplap pattern for kitchen back splash.
  • Let the décor include a lot of ropes and greenery.

COMBO 5

French country + shabby chic

Why is this a good choice?

One is a very elegant and sophisticated style while the other is completely random and embraces haphazardness in the most beautiful way possible to provide a chic effect as the name suggests. While these two have their similarities in their respective color palette and affinity towards vintage furniture, the difference lie in the way they are placed and presented along with few other elements. Hence this combo is contrasting and as well as complementing. While designing a shabby chic interior in can be quite overwhelming due to the ethnicity and wide rang it offers just like bohemian but have a dominant style and put in a few recessive elements to complete the look. In this case the dominant style would be French country.

How to implement?

  • Light muted colors for walls with some bright accent colors for furnishings.
  • Antique metal statement headboard for bed.
  • Hand-me-down vintage piece of furniture.
  • Some retro punch in tile patterns but stick with the neutral theme.
  • Barn door / antique doors with intricate metal handles.
  • Lots of natural décor like flowers but prefer the lavender tone of flowers.
  • Light weighted and light colored fabric but of varied materials range and sizes, to use as throws, layers and rugs and that has a bling factor to it. For example a shimmering gray throw on a sofa.
  • The furniture arrangement should be a little cluttered with either a rusty finish.
  • An alcove seating with soft furnishings and cushions with mismatched prints for a classy and chic nook.
  • An artificial fire place and French chandelier as statements pieces, with some retro pieces as accents should complete the living room.

COMBO 6

SPANISH REVIVAL + HAMPTONS

Why is this a good choice?

While one is a colonial revival style inspired from an eclectic swatch of various other design styles the other is fondly known as the coastal decorating style, they are two contrasting sides of a similar effect. Simple elegance. Best suited for seaside villas and guest houses.

  • Half rounded doors and windows with intricate timber architraves/cornices/mouldings.
  • Artificial lighting combination must include wrought iron wall lanterns and chandeliers.
  • Asymmetrical shaker style cabinetry for kitchen.
  • Plastered interior walls with wainscoting and intricate skirting tile work.
  • Wrought iron hard ware for furniture and lighting accompanied with natural textiles (jute, linen, rattan) for furnishings.
